- Population: about 24,290,000
- Capital: Yamoussoukro
- Time Difference: -9 hrs
Cote d’Ivoire is situated in Western Africa and shares borders with Ghana to its east, Guinea to its west, and the Atlantic Ocean to its south. The area close to the coast has a tropical climate with high temperatures and humidity, and the interior of the country has a savanna climate with average annual temperatures ranging from 25 - 33 °C.
Cote d’Ivoire in French means, “the ivory coast”, and it comes from European merchant ships that came to the area to engage in the ivory trade in the Middle Ages. Although it exports the most cocoa out of any country in the world, it still has a relatively low GDP when compared to the rest of the world.
