Financial Support
Child allowance
- Those eligible
Those raising a child that is aged 15 or younger and living in Japan. - Things to be aware of
If you have a higher household income, you may receive less or be ineligble to receive allowance.
(From October 2024, the child allowance system will change.)
Child-rearing allowance
- Those eligible
- Those with custody of and raising a child whose parents divorced, etc.
- Those raising a child whose mother or father passed away.
- Those with custody of and raising a child whose mother or father has a severe disability.
- Those raising a child whose parents are unmarried.
- Conditions to receive the allowance
- The amount that you receive depends on your income, if you are receiving a pension, etc.
- Please note that there may be cases where you are ineligible to receive the allowance.
Partial subsidy of medical fees for premature births〈Medical treatment for premature infants (youiku iryou) 〉

- Babies born 2000g or lower and are required to be hospitalized for treatment.
- Babies that have particularly low vital signs and requiring to be hospitalized for treatment.
- Application period Within 1 month of birth and before being discharged
Treatment for child disabilities〈independence support medical care (treatment to cure or lessen the burden of disabilities)〉can be partially subsidized.

Single parent and widow/widower welfare loans

Prepaid book coupons to encourage children that lost a parent/guardian in a traffic accident

This app was created to provide important information about pregnancies, giving birth, and raising children in an easy to read format that can be accessed anywhere.

Regional Child-Rearing Support Center
The support center is the center of a network made up of facilities that are knowledgeable and experienced with raising children that helps parents/guardians be less worried about raising their children. It also serves as a hub that parents and their children can interact with other parents and children in their community.

Short-Term Childcare Support (Short Stay) Project
You can temporarily have your child(ren) looked after in the case that guardians cannot due to having an illness, giving birth, going to a wedding/funeral, exhausted from raising children, etc.

Those wishing to use these services need to be registered before using them. You should first go to the facility you would like to use to have a meeting with staff and then register afterwards if approved. - Usable period 7 days or less

Nighttime Childcare (Twilight Stay) Project
Parents that cannot look after their children on weekday nights, Saturdays, and/or long school vacations can have their children looked after during these times. This project also provides children with some basic instruction, meals, etc.

Gifu Family Support Center
The Gifu Family Support Center matches members that would like to receive support in raising their children (clients) with those that would like to give paid support to those raising children (support members) in a way that is mutually beneficial to both parties.
Those wanting support can register and then directly pay support members for their services. All supporting members undergo mandatory training. Advisors at the center also serve as coordinators to make sure services are properly provided, etc.

If You Would Like to Have a Sick Child Looked After
Childcare for currently sick children or children recovering from an illness
- Children that are sick or recovering from an illness and would be difficult to look after in a group setting.
- Children of guardian(s) unable to look after them due to work or similar unavoidable circumstance.
- 3rd grade elementary school students or younger living in Gifu City
If all of these conditions apply, your children can be looked after at a facility next to a hospital/clinic.
Usage fees ¥2000/child per day.
Those living in the city within a household receiving public assistance or a household exempt from paying municipal tax can use the service for free.
If in a household with three children or more under 18 years old, every child from the third child on can use the service for free.
Please contact the facility you would like to use if you would also like for your child to receive a lunch.
How to use this service
Make a prior registration with the childcare facility that you would like to use, then apply to the facility and your child may use this service after being examined.
You can also register on the same day that you would like to use this service.

Transportation to medical facilities for sick children at childcare facilities
For children age 1 - 3rd grade in elementary school that live in Gifu City and become ill at a childcare facility, nurses can be sent by taxi to pick them up and bring them to a medical facility to be examined/treated and afterwards be looked after temporarily.
*This service is only available to children at a childcare facility, not those at home.
