People living in Japan need to inform the municipality they are living in if they are moving in or moving out even when they are moving to somewhere else within the country.

Moving in notifications

This notification is necessary to submit when moving to Gifu City from a different municipality.

Period

Within 14 days of moving in

Location

Gifu City Hall or one of its branch offices

Registered by

The person doing the moving or the head of the household
(or a representative)

Things to bring

When moving from within Japan

  • Moving out certificate
    (Issued by the municipality that you previously lived in. Not required for those who have reported moving out using the "notification of moving in special exemption" with their Individual Number Card.)
    *When your moving plans have been finalized, please submit a moving out notification to the municipality that your previous address was located in.
  • The residence and/or special permanent resident cards of everyone that is moving in
  • National Pension Program booklet
    (for those enrolled at your previous address)
  • Indivisual Number card
    (for those that have one)
  • In the case that a representative submits the notification on your behalf
    You will need to write a power of attorney for the representative and for them to also bring an official form of ID in their name.

When moving in from abroad

  • The passports of everyone moving in
    (document(s) showing the date(s) they entered Japan)
  • All the residence and/or special permanent residence cards of those moving in
    (For those that were not issued a residence card immediately after landing, you can submit your passport if an official wrote in it that you will receive your residence card later)
  • If you are entering into a different household, please submit a publically issued certificate as well as a Japanese translation (if necessary) to prove your relationship to the head of the household
  • In the case that a representative submits the notification on your behalf
    You will need to write a power of attorney for the representative and for them to also bring an official form of ID in their name.

Moving notifications

A moving notification needs to be submitted if the address you are moving out of and the address you are moving into are both within Gifu City.

Period

Within 14 days of moving to your new residence

Location

Gifu City Hall or one of its branch offices

The person doing the moving or the head of the household

Things to bring

  • The residence and/or special permanent resident cards of everyone that is moving in
  • National Health Insurance card (only for those enrolled)
  • National Pension Program booklet (only for those enrolled)
  • Medical care recipient certificate (issued in accordance with the Insurance Act)(only for those issued one)
  • In the case that a representative submits the notification on your behalf
    You will need to write a power of attorney for the representative and for them to also bring an official form of ID in their name.

    (for those that have one)

Moving out notifications

You will need to submit this notification if you move to a different municipality from Gifu City.
You will be issued a moving out certificate after submitting your notification of moving out. You will then need to give this to the municipality that you are moving to.

(The card will not be issued to those who have reported moving out using the "notification of moving in special exemption" with their Individual Number Card.)

Period

After your plans for moving are finalized
*Please submit this as close to your moving date as possible in order to prevent any inconveniences such as not being able to receive copies of your residence certificate, etc.
